Every few years, a set of orders shows up and our life goes into boxes.
We’re a Navy family: a Navy dad, a nurse mom, two boys, a baby girl, and a puppy who has opinions about moving trucks. The Navy has moved us from Utah to Hawaii to South Carolina to Virginia, where we live now. Each time, we’ve had a few years to really live somewhere before packing up again. That’s why we call ourselves the Periodic Travelers: we travel in periods, one duty station at a time.
What you’ll find here
- Duty station guides. Written from living there, not from a long weekend: neighborhoods, day trips, kid-friendly spots, and what we wish someone had told us before we arrived.
- Trip itineraries. Mexico (a lot of Mexico), England, Iceland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Ghana, and Sierra Leone.
- Moving and traveling with a family. What worked, what didn’t, and what we’d pack differently next time.
Who this is for
If you’re a military family who just got orders, this is for you. If you’re any family trying to see the world without losing your mind (or your kid’s other shoe), it’s for you too.
What’s next
We’re starting with the places we know best. If there’s somewhere you want us to write about first, tell us on Instagram, and join the list so you get each new guide when it goes up.
